Ergonomics on a budget: five upgrades under $200

Ergonomics has a reputation for being expensive, and it can be. But the biggest gains come from getting a few basics right, most of which cost less than a nice dinner.

Start with screen height

The single most common desk problem is a monitor that's too low, which pulls your neck forward all day. A monitor arm or even a sturdy stand that puts the top of the screen at eye level fixes it for very little money.

Support the lower back

A chair with adjustable lumbar support does more for comfort than almost anything else. If a new chair isn't in the budget this quarter, a lumbar cushion on the chair you have is a cheap stopgap.

Let people stand

A sit-stand converter turns any desk into an adjustable one without replacing the furniture. Alternating posture through the day beats any single 'correct' position.
